Why We Need More Of God's Love

1 John 2:9-17 Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

What does it profit a person to hate another? Exhilaration for a moment and then what? That person is bitter in their heart because of something they have not dealt with in their life so, they bring out their hurtful experiences on others. Pray for such a person because they are under the control of something harmful to themselves and others. In counselling, we will call it a feeling but it is a fruit not born from God's Holy Spirit.

God is love, anyone born of God must bear the fruit of love because they bear the DNA of God. Anything not born out of love is of the devil. That means the heart of that person is rotten and it needs the life of Christ to revive it. Love is the greatest of all things and it lasts forever, hate does not. Hate makes a person lose their way because they are blinded by the hate in them.

It is the responsibility of every believer to love everyone as God loves us. It is one of the greatest commandments we have been commanded. We should endeavour to pray without ceasing for God’s love to increase in the world. Love is the only reason Jesus Christ came to the world so we can be reconciled to God. Let us share this love by reaching out to the ones being harassed by the evil spirit of hate. Pray for them and speak the truth of the gospel to them because it is based on the unconditional love of God.
