Strength in the Waiting

ree

Key scriptures:

Isaiah 40:28–31, Psalm 27:14

Life often brings the unexpected, and in those moments we may struggle to understand what is happening. Yet in His Word, God reminds us in Isaiah 40:28–31 that He never grows tired or weary. He is the everlasting God who cares deeply for His children. His love is unchanging, and His desire is always for our good.

Our challenge is to hold on to faith, choosing to believe His Word above our feelings or circumstances. He has spoken: “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.” This promise invites us to trust Him even when it feels easier to give in to discouragement.

The truth is, faith is not passive.

To “wait on the Lord” is to seek Him in prayer, lean on His strength, and expect His timing. The enemy would prefer to keep us stagnant, weary, and resigned to what life has handed us. But God calls us to rise up, to pray, and to believe that He will bring renewal and breakthrough.

Psalm 27:14 gives us the same reminder: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” This phrase is repeated intentionally. Whenever Scripture repeats something, it calls us to pay special attention. Here, God emphasises the importance of trusting Him and not giving up. In waiting, He strengthens us, and in trusting, we find courage.

However, when we doubt, we cannot endure the challenges of life. Think of Peter on the water in Matthew 14:22–33. As long as he fixed his eyes on Jesus, he walked above the waves. But when he shifted his focus to the wind and the waves, fear overtook him, and he began to sink. The same is true for us: when we rely on our ability, we lose sight of God’s power. Jesus’ question to Peter echoes to us still: “Why did you doubt?”

To “wait for the Lord” is to pause, listen, and align ourselves with what God is saying. It is to stay focused on Him, not on the chaos around us. As we wait, He builds resilience, faith, and strength within us.

Practical Steps

  • Ask yourself: Is there an area in your life where God is calling you to wait on Him?

  • Is He encouraging you right now to “be strong and take heart”?

  • Remember: the answer lies within you, because His Spirit is already at work in you.

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your unwavering strength and immeasurable understanding. Teach me to wait on You with faith and patience. Renew my strength where I am weak, and awaken my heart to trust Your promises. I ask for endurance to run without growing weary and to walk without fainting, for You are my everlasting God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
